Another "Beautiful Day"

The weather is always something to talk about. Although the calendar says otherwise, here in Decatur it still feels and looks a good bit like summer. Well, maybe spring by Hot-lanta standards. My point being the 80s and sunshine still abound when I would rather be wearing a sweater. Sigh. My love of fall being shattered by southern living aside, I am a little shocked at how easy it is for us to still say, it's such a beautiful day! Today was beautiful. Don't get me wrong. Warm in the sun, cool in the shade, bright blue skies, and just a few puffy clouds floating around. The perfect day to get my reading done on the benches around campus. What is bothering me is that we can still declare such a sunny, dry day beautiful while the state of GA is in a stage 4 drought. I do not know anything about the stages of drought, but according to the news folks and those they interview, 4 is very, very bad. There's a lake in North GA dropping a foot per day. We are under a watering ban and being asked by the Governor to conserve water. Bottom line: if it doesn't rain here soon, water conservation will move from a plea to a mandate and officials will need to begin considering serious alternatives to the drinking water supply. That all sounds pretty serious to me, but the local weathermen and women still say with a smile, it's going to be another beautiful day out there and we nod in agreement basking in the sun, or if you're the sun sensitive type like me, aka, burn like a french fry, basking in the shade. It just doesn't seem right. And how much you wanna bet we'll all complain on the first day it does rain?! Fantastic.
