Think Tifton

I returned last night from a road trip to Tifton GA. Almost to the Florida border from here, 'Think Tifton' billboards counted down the miles to the "reading capital of the world." I was asked to visit this south Georgia town to represent Columbia Seminary at the Flint River Presbytery's retreat. As a work study student in the development office it was my joy to volunteer for this odd excursion. The seminary provided a car, is footing the bill, and suggested I bring a friend for company. Yes please! As senioritis deeply sets in, I was more than happy to escape the bubble with a great friend for a (free) trip to the middle of nowhere.

We saw no evidence that Tifton is actually the reading capital of the world, but we did make some interesting, odd, and occasionally scary finds. The retreat was at a Baptist convention center, with a prayer chapel resembling an IHOP restaurant, in Norman Park. To get there from Tifton, one has to travel through the "city" of Omega. This is probably only funny to seminary students...Omega...the end...haha! So beyond the end we went passing scary farm machinery, lots of Baptist churches, vultures eating road kill, and grocery store #3.

On duty at our display table we met some very nice Presbyterian folks and made some connections to our past and future. We were introduced at the opening event, after which the man introducing the speaker yelled to the crowd, "Are you on fire for Jesus?!" Does he know we're all Presbyterian?

It was a fun roadtrip with lots of laughter, (mostly at ourselves), random pictures of Fred, and overall a relaxing break from the normalcy of our lives.
